Helping you create a deeply fulfilling and personally sustainable work life by accessing your passion and creativity.

Karen Hoffman

Work Coach

Do you enjoy your work? Do you get to use your strengths in your job or business? Do you find enough meaning in your way of making a living?

Do you enjoy the people you work with? Do you make enough money? Do you have enough time to do what you need and want to do?

If you answered no to any of these questions, you might be dedicating a big chunk of your life to something that is less than satisfying.

Or the situation could be worse. Your work might demand so much of you that it leaves you exhausted. Even work that is just boring day after day can be stifling and leave you feeling drained, apathetic, or filled with dread.

I understand. I have been there.

It doesn’t have to be this way.

Work can be what you love to do and do easily. Work that is aligned with your talents, passions and values actually gives you energy and can meet all of your needs.

LET ME SHOW YOU HOW.

I dreaded work every day. I thought about quitting my job and finding another,

but I doubted that would solve my problem.

With Karen’s coaching, I changed my job.

I eliminated the part that stressed me out.

I have my weekends back! I feel happier and lighter than I have in a long time.

I feel like myself again.

"Being overwhelmed by work was a way of life for me. I felt stressed most of the time. Through Karen’s coaching, I learned how to take the pressure off. I also discovered that I pressure myself a lot, and learned how not to do that. This took some practice, but it was really worth it. I have the same job,

but it's completely different now because

I feel so much better!"

About

Meet Karen

I help people create work lives that consist of what they enjoy and do easily. This way, they can feel happy and fulfilled, and share the benefits of their gifts with others.

I have an ability to see other people’s talents and passions, which they often cannot see themselves. I am good at drawing people out about their values, needs and wants that they have been overlooking and pushing aside. I have an effective process for helping people create and reach goals that take them to their end goal of having a work life they love.

I believe that when you give yourself your own attention and care, you can have a work life that allows you to feel calm and content, rested and resourced.

My manner is direct but gentle. I help you see your strengths, as well as what gets in your way. I help you get beyond those obstacles, so that you can have a work life that puts your wellbeing in the center.

I learned the hard way that being smart and working hard does not necessarily lead to a career that makes you happy.

My Story

Prior to coaching, I taught environmental studies and sociology for twelve years at the university level.

I loved each of the parts of my job. I loved teaching. I loved meeting with students. I loved doing research and writing. I  loved meeting with colleagues.

The trouble was there was not enough time to do each of the parts of my job at least adequately. And it was impossible to do them all well. I tried setting limits, but the demands on me were too many. I put in a lot of extra hours, and still couldn't keep up with all of the work.

I became so depleted that I stopped enjoying my job. Because my overall work load was too  heavy, each part began to feel like too much.

My career was not working for me!

This crisis was deeply disappointing and disheartening. At first, it was impossible to accept that the career I had strived so hard for was no longer working for me. I was also confused. I just couldn't continue what I was doing. But I didn't know what else to do, or even how to start making a transition.

After a long while of suffering through this alone, a friend suggested working with a coach. I never dreamed such a person existed! I found a coach who helped me tune into what I love doing the most, what I am good at, what I care about, and what I need in my work life.

I realized that helping students was the part of my job that I loved the most. I loved guiding them to identify their interests and talents, create projects they really wanted to work on, reflect on their experiences, and make choices about what work they wanted to pursue when they graduated.

My coach helped me see that the way I worked with students individually was coaching, and that I have a gift for it. I realized that what I wanted to do was coach!

My coach also helped me see that I could set up my new work life as a coach in a way that allowed enough time to do it well. That way I could feel energized instead of overworked, and passionate instead of frustrated.

I redirected my talent and enjoyment in listening, eliciting relevant information, and giving feedback, to coaching people to create work lives that are aligned with their passions, talents, values, and needs.

Coaching in this context feeds me rather than exhausts me. And it fulfills my desire to help people and make the world a better place

I have a Ph.D. in History of Consciousness from the University of California, Santa Cruz.

I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and consult with people in all areas of work, helping them to create work lives they love.
